Contact Me

I am a Dancer and Choreographer and Lighting Designer.

My work exists on the periphery of common of definitions dance. It is influenced by ideas seen in postmodern dance and physical theater concerning intentions and the use of the human body in performance. however, given these terms numerus interpretations, my work is best situated as adjacent to rather than within either category. I am interested in exploring the human experience through movement and think of this work as art or performance centered around movement and the human body.

I work with movement and light. At times, these ideas are intimately connected and equally prominent while at others one form takes precedence. There is also value developing either in collaboration with other artists. I am drawn to movement as a form of artistic expression because movement can communicate through shared experience. Everyone has a physical existence which shapes their relationship to the world. Each person’s physical experience is unique, but all human beings have bodies, which impacts how we live and interact with one another. Using bodies as my medium, and including mundane movement in my choreographic vocabulary, I can access this common experience.

How the human form and performance space is revealed by light provides context to the material. By influencing perception of space, objects, and motion, lighting choices define the metaphorical environment of a performance. Time is an inherent aspect all performance. Duration is inescapable and defining which resembles our experience of life. With light I can control how one piece of movement looks relative to another, separating ideas to convey meaning and relationships. My goal is for the audience to identify with the movement regardless of their previous experience with dance.
